MS new SA benefit announced, should come with Vaseline for us SPF’s

When I first got this note, I thought cool MS is adding another goodie to SA, but after careful analysis it is enough to get me to stop selling SA completely. Sorry MS it is about survival, I have a business to run.

Take a look at the announcement below (yes i changed the name), watch for the text I changed to red.
The way I read that is, once again MS will walk-in to my client with their favorite son under their arm to cut you out of the loop. Part of an ongoing process to dump partners (as pointed out on clearly on  Vlad’s Blog). You might want to contact your tpam and find out what it takes to become a BVPS, there must be some secret hand shake or something.

Dear About to be HiJacked DownHome Computers Client:

This e-mail is from the Microsoft® Worldwide Software Assurance team.

We are pleased to announce that effective November 2008 the Software Assurance Packaged Service benefit will include two new voucher types. These voucher engagements will be available in 3, 5, 10 and 15 day service levels.

  • Exchange Deployment Planning Services (EDPS)
The EDPS engagement is designed to help guide you through the deployment planning stages of a Microsoft Exchange implementation. Structured engagements are conducted by pre-qualified EDPS partners , who will share best practices, analyze your organizational requirements, and help create comprehensive deployment and implementation plans.
  • Business Value Planning Services (BVPS)
The BVPS engagement is designed to help you identify, unlock, and capture the business value of Microsoft Office System.

Through structured engagements, a pre-qualified BVPS partner will work with you to identify and design improvements to an existing business process using Office System technology. BVPS can assist you with:

    • Realizing a greater return on your existing Office System technology investment
    • Solving real problems that you and your employees face every day with a familiar technology platform
    • Building a convincing business case to drive change and improve your business processes
    • Receiving a 3rd-party solution analysis and services through Microsoft Certified Partners that are pre-qualified as BVPS providers

Please don’t feel compelled to answer this question, for it holds a very ugly truth. But here it goes anyhow:

Why are you trying so hard to work with a company that has worked so very hard to make sure you don’t participate in the cloud services?

Never mind the alternatives, never mind the companies with the actual partner program, never mind the on-premise business and tons of competition. Ignore all that, just try to figure out an answer to why you are dying to maintain status quo while the former partner dumps billions of dollars into putting you out of business?

    Andy,

I believe there is some mis-understanding of what these Packaged Services for Software Assurance are. I have just put together a post on my Blog to help explain what they are and hopefully ease your concern. I have also included links on how Partners can become providers of these services if you are servicing the 200+ PC customer segment, since that is where these services apply. http://blogs.msdn.com/mssmallbiz/archive/2008/11/26/9145211.aspx

    Hi Eric,

Thank you for posting this clarification at http://blogs.msdn.com/mssmallbiz/archive/2008/11/26/9145211.aspx, I am sure this will help partners understand the programs better. It is still confusing to some of us why MS is sending these letters out to our customers that don’t even qualify for them in the first place. Since will still look to you as our partner champion maybe you could have a chat with whoever is sending them out about targeting their audience a little better. Thank You again for this posting.
