Triad SBS Group August Meeting

Monday, July 21st, 2008

James Wirth of Team CNS has offered to present Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V. James is the Columbia Group Lead and did a terrific job earlier this month presenting in Charlotte.  He is also doing his presentation in Upstate SC on July 24th. So he should have all the kinks worked out by the time he gets to us :>) We will get see how easy it is to introduce virtualization to our clients on the latest platform released from Microsoft.

Come join us on August 5th, it should be virtually enlightening!

http://www.gratitudecampaign.org/shortmovie.php

This is pretty neat 30 second video. Have you ever seen one of our military walking

past you and wanted to convey to them your thanks, but weren’t sure
how or it felt awkward?

Recently, a gentleman from Seattle created a gesture which could be used and has

started a movement to get the word out.

Please everybody take just a moment to watch…. The Gratitude Campaign .

and then forward it to your friends!

THEN START USING THE SIGN.

Pick your vendors wisely – Symantec Trojan Alert!

Symantec in a classic “Trojan Horse” attack will move away from its traditional partner program in exchange for direct sales in an effort to  ”cut go-to-market costs, ” according to CRN Channel News.  Symantec has already launched an assault against its partners that manage its 900 largest customers and now plans to target YOU as it goes after subscription renewals for SMB customers.  Symantec hopes to automate much of the company’s SMB business.  For many in the industry (hopefully you),  this is not seen as a big surprise.

This information was shared by executives of Symantec with Wall Street analysts on June 12, 2008 at a private investor conference.  This information was required to be disclosued under Regulation FD - “Full Disclosure” - under the Federal Securities Laws and is accessible through the Symantec WebSite (see page 25)

SBS 2008 Certificate Issue

Are you beta testing SBS 2008 (Cougar) and still a little confused over certificates on remote computers and mobile devices? Hop on over to Sean’s Blog he will straighted you out :>)

A chance to let your voice be heard

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Mark Crall one of the Microsoft PAL’s has put up a survey to collect your input about subscription income.

He will be sitting in a meeting in Redmond next week and since he represents us out here in the channel, he would like some input from you about what to represent. Yes when I took it, it felt as if it was designed to get me to agree with the announcements made at WWPC, but you don’t have to answer every question (some don’t have a good choice) and the last one is an open box where you can make you opinion heard.

So please, at least take a look at the questions and answer the ones that don’t bother you, otherwise you have no right to critique the process you didn’t bother to participate in.

Scott Colson speaks on Microsoft Partner Announcement

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

As you may have figured out by now, I am not at WWPC this year, just couldn’t afford the time or the money.

But I have been following the announcements and blog posts. Vlad is doing a series of Pod-Casts interviewing some of the well known people in our space. Yesterday he did an interview with Mark Crall and today he picked Scott Colson’s (CRM MVP) brain. They run about 30 minutes each, but are well worth the time to listen.

Just try not to get busted looking stupid like I did when my wife walked into my office and said why are you starring at a black screen. If you have a simplex brain like me and cannot do two things at once, open QuickBooks so it doesn’t look like you have lost your mind :>)

Hold Off on Installing Hotfix 948110 on SBS 2003 Servers

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

You may want to hold off installing Hotfix 948110 for a few days, there are some issues popping up.

Here is the offical word from Microsoft

HA-edit 7/12/2008: MS has released new information and is now saying all but a few exception READ ARTICLE should go ahead and install. They are working on fixing the detection logic, my advise is to still do nothing until it is fixed properly.

Free SBS 2008 Exam Voucher, if you hurry

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

That is right, I said free. I knew that would get your attention :>)

Microsoft is giving away 5000 exam vouchers for free get the detatils here

They made the announcement at WWPC last night.

Please take the test if you request the voucher, you wouldn’t believe how many of these kind of things go to waste, because people take them and don’t use them. Since there are a finite number of them, if you ask for one and don’t use it, it is like taking it from someone else who would. You don’t want to think of yourself as a thief do you. So to keep your self esteem high, go take the test if you request the voucher :>)

Vlads New Direction

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I have gotten a few e-mails and calls asking me what Vlad is up to. I don’t know why y’all assume I am his father, I am way too young for that :>)

One of the nicer ones came in this morning “Loved the blog from Vlad you forwarded, although I did not agree with his assessment of SBS providers, many of whom I have met and have respect for.”  Some were so rude, they sounded like Vlad wrote them :>) What I don’t understand is why y’all they send them to me instead of responding to his posts directly.

I have a little secret for ya, he is all about the conversation. He just wants to motivate you to respond, to communicate. Don’t like what he has to say, that is why there is a reply section on Vladville.com post your thoughts.

As for what he is up to, He Will Tell You In His Own Words Here

Wondering when SBS 2008 & EBS will Launch?

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Well wonder no more, Eric Posted the Offical Date to His Blog direct from the announcement at WWPC. Hop over there and read the official announcement.

So you have about 4 months to get up to speed on the new technology. Have you been to www.multiplyyourpower.com and downloaded the public preview yet? Can I ask what are you waiting for? Microsoft is going to be making the biggest push towards the mass market SBS has ever seen, and that means lots of dead bodies (pronounced potential clients), but if only if you know and understand the new technology and can be more of a help than a hindrance.

Your still here? I would have thought for sure by now you would have hopped on over to find out the date, don’t you have any curiosity left?
